SPRING HAS SPRUNG!

For those of you reading this magazine, the national "Get Caught Reading Month" is just for you! The months of April and May open many doors, as the weather gets nicer and invites us outside. My favorite memories of summer were waiting for the bookmobile to pull into the neighborhood, spreading a blanket under a shady tree and getting lost in a story. In our modern age of high technology a good story can be uploaded, downloaded, recited or read under a shady tree in your backyard, park or at the beach!

Speaking of the beach and parks, the month of May is Skin Care Awareness Month. Which begs the question: "to wear, or not to wear sunscreen?". When I go to the family doctor I am told to expose my skin to the sun to generate vitamin D in my skin. When I visit the dermatologist (which is frequently because I have "fair Irish" skin and live in Florida), I am advised to cover up with SPF 50. If not, they tell me to wear a Mumu and live under an umbrella. BTW, we would love to have a dermatologist as a Contributor to the Woman's Journal. Please let us know which one in town we should approach.

This brings us to National Health Month also recognized in May. So while you are perusing our magazine please allow me to draw your attention to the articles within, which provide you with healthcare, nutrition and otherwise "caring for yourself" information. We hope you will support and recommend our Contributors to your friends and family.

Being outside more, we are reminded to protect our environment. We are fortunate to live in northeast Florida, an area that supports many diverse habitats. When visiting our coastal region remember to take home what you bring (including trash and cigarette butts), protect the environment (stay out of the dunes), and respect the wildlife that live there (including sea turtles who nest from March 1st through October 31st ). If you find an injured animal or have further questions contact Florida Fish & Wildlife (FWC) at 1-888-404-3922.

For our mothers, grandmothers, aunts and the other women we have in our lives, we wish you a special Mother's Day as you enjoy time with your friends and families.

And as we celebrate and recognize all of these holidays we invite you to include others, be kind, get outside and take a hike in one of our beautiful state parks and SHOP LOCAL.

As always we invite you to enjoy the articles enclosed in these pages and to support our Contributors. We welcome your suggestions for new Contributors and recommendations for our Women In Profile feature.

We are especially looking to add Contributors in the Home Improvement area: Electrical, Plumbing, Heating and Air, Roofing, Painting, Landscaping and other building contractors.

Slainte!
