Live in St. Augustine? Make plans to vacation in your own backyard. Shop local, stay local and eat local! Activities abound; from the free concerts at the St. Augustine Pier Park on Wednesday evenings to the "ghost" tours downtown, there is always something for everyone. Shop local at the "Wednesday Market" at the pier from 8:00 to 12:30 for arts, crafts, fresh produce and much more.

Be a good steward of the environment and protect our beautiful beaches by helping to pick up trash, cigarette butts and other items that are harmful to sea life. Mark your calendar for the 2017 International Beach Clean-up, sponsored by Friends of A1A Scenic & Historic Coastal Byway (scenicA1A.org). Just an hour or two on September 16th can help keep our beaches healthy. Turtle season is May 1st to November 1st. Adopting a turtle nest is a great family activity and a great way to be a steward to our beautiful coastline.

Kids in the house! School's out! Visit your local St. Johns County library and participate in the summer reading program. This year's theme is "Build a Better World". The youth librarians have planned a summer of fun for kids and adults.

As the 2017 hurricane season begins, unfortunately many in our community are still reeling from the after effects of Hurricane Matthew. Storm season is from June through November. There are many resources to help you with hurricane preparation: protecting property, evacuation routes, packing and surviving without water and electricity. Please take the time to be prepared!

As always we invite you to enjoy the articles enclosed in these pages and to support our Contributors. We welcome your suggestions for new Contributors and recommendations for our Women In Profile feature.

We are especially looking to add Contributors in the Home Improvement area: Electrical, Plumbing, Heating and Air, Roofing, Painting, Landscaping and other building contractors.

Slainte!
