Rita Hubbs, Volunteer of the Year, Flagler Hospital

At Flagler Hospital's 2017, Annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon, the Volunteer of the Year Award was presented to Rita Hubbs. Rita currently volunteers in the Auxiliary Office and as a substitute in the ER, Monitor Bank and Outpatient Surgery departments. She was elected as 1st Vice President on the Auxiliary Board of Directors and is president-elect for 2017-2018.

During the past year, she has taken on a number of special projects, including cross-training in several services and assisting with monthly new volunteer orientation sessions.

"Rita's assistance this year has been critical to the success of the Auxiliary," stated Director of Volunteer Services Carol Saviak, "Wherever she learns of any need within the Auxiliary or with an individual volunteer, she is always ready to step in and do whatever it takes to get the job done."

In preparation for her future duties as president where she'll represent volunteers working in more than 25 different departments at Flagler Hospital, she has also been cross-training in several of the Auxiliary's volunteer service areas to experience these services first-hand. Rita has volunteered at Flagler Hospital since 2014 and has volunteered over 2500 total service hours.

Rita also volunteers on the Culinary Committee at Memorial Presbyterian Church in downtown St. Augustine. Each week, she dons an apron and assists the culinary volunteers in preparing the weekly Sunday fellowship breakfasts and lunches, as well as Wednesday evening dinners. She thoroughly enjoys greeting members and guests at their weekly fellowship events.

In addition to volunteering, Rita continues to work as a part time consultant for NeuroRestorative, a national neuro-rehabilitation and supported living company. She enjoys spending time with the families of her 4 sons and 12 grandchildren.
