The Betty Griffin Center Thrift Shoppe has a group of new employees managing the nonprofit agency’s Julington Square Thrift Shoppe, located at 445 State Road 13 in the Wal-Mart Shopping Plaza.

The new team includes store manager Leanna Brugmann, assistant store manager Misty Wentz and director of retail services Angelica Soto.

Brugmann, who is proud to note she was the first female truck driver hired by the nonprofit organization and spent a year transporting furniture and other large items donated to the thrift shoppe, says she and her team have elevated the focus on customer service.

“We go out of our way to be helpful to anyone looking for a certain item, and that means we also have to maintain a more thorough knowledge of all the clothing, appliances and other items on the shelves,” said Brugmann. “With more and more thrift stores opening every year, we know people have choices, and we have to offer a higher level of customer service to keep them coming to see us.”

All proceeds from sales at the thrift shoppe go directly to support the Betty Griffin Center, which provides emergency shelter and services for residents experiencing domestic and/or sexual abuse in St. Johns County. The Julington Square Thrift Shoppe is one of two stores Betty Griffin Center operates in St. Johns County, which help provide funds to assist survivors and their families with food items, legal advocacy, counseling, financial literacy, therapy and education about other available resources.

Brugmann notes that the team always welcomes more volunteers to help with sorting items, stocking the shelves and other activities at the thrift shoppe. For more information or to sign up as a volunteer, visit http://bettygriffincenter.org/volunteer-career-opportunities/.

In addition to accepting donations at the shoppe, people who have large items to donate such as furniture and tables can contact 904-495-8216 to schedule a home pick up.

“Donated items, as well as people shopping, help to provide critical services and save lives,” Brugmann said.
